Philosophy of Physics
Earlier research on relativity, quantum mechanics, and conceptual foundations.
My philosophy of physics research focused on foundational questions in relativity and quantum mechanics, including Presentism and Eternalism in special relativity, Putnam’s argument about tenseless existence, Stein’s view of subjective becoming, and the EPR paradox’s implications for locality.
The work was not technical ML research, and I do not want to overstate it as AI safety experience. Its lasting value is more about taste: it trained me to care about the difference between a formalism that predicts well and an explanation that actually clarifies what is going on.
That distinction shows up again in my current interests. A model can answer correctly while using brittle or opaque reasoning; an evaluation can produce a score without telling us what capability was actually tested. Philosophy of physics is part of why I keep gravitating toward interpretability and evaluations rather than only performance.
